Welcome to the website of the Birdwood Area Residents' Association (BARA)
Happy New Year. The Coleridge Community Forum, are kick starting the year with a chance to get together and discuss what the community wants the forum to get involved with in 2023, such as trips and events. Please join them Thursday 19th Jan at 7.30pm at St Thomas's Hall and bring along friends and neighbours. Refreshments will be available from 7.15pm. Also, details of the Winter Warmer are below (or see the poster).
The Birdwood Area Residents' Association was formed to promote neighbourliness and a sense of community and to form a conduit to the City and County councils about issues related to this area.
We cover Birdwood Road and all roads leading off it: Birdwood Road; Tiverton Way; Ancaster Way; Trevone Place; Britten Place; Robert May Close; Teynham Close; Budleigh Close; Taunton Close; The Spinney; Chalmers Road; Gray Road; Ward Road; St Thomas's Road; St Thomas's Square. If you think there is a general problem for the area, do contact us. We'd also love to hear from you if you have any ideas for future events or anything to increase neighbourliness. If you prefer, you can put a note through the door at 52 Birdwood Road.
Our email list is growing. Contact us and tell us your address and email and we'll stop sending you a paper copy of our newsletter. You'll receive our newsletter electronically and occasionally some emails that are time sensitive but we keep these to a minimum. Your data will be safely stored and will not be given to anybody else.
For those who are not keen on technology we have two noticeboards in the area. If you'd like to add something to them post them through the door at 52 Birdwood Road. Community Library
The Community Library has set up home outside number 52 Birdwood Road. Please feel free to take and add books. Of course, the library will take cover when it rains so you won't always see it there. |
Coronavirus. The Queen Edith's website is providing a lot of helpful information that would be pointless for us to duplicate. For Cherry Hinton visit https://www.whatwillhelp.org/cherry-hinton (this includes people from Walpole Road area). Please help your neighbours who are isolating or finding life difficult, while keeping yourself safe.
The Coleridge Community Action Helpline will close on 31 March 2021 due to lack of demand. An alternative service that provides similar help is the NHS Responder service on 0808 196 3646.
The Coleridge Food Hub takes place at St Thomas' Hall 3-5pm on Thursday afternoons. If you have extra food or other items that people might need you are welcome to take it along on Thursdays 3-5pm.
Also at St Thomas' Hall on Thursday afternoons, 3-6pm is the Winter Warmer. Free and open to all it offers a warm welcome, free refreshments and a shared meal.
Both are run by the Coleridge Community Forum.
